The Pirate Bay Blocked By A Danish ISP

The Pirate Bay continues to come in news (not for good reasons though).

The latest one was on Monday when a Danish court ordered one of the country's Internet service providers (ISP) to block access to the torrent search engine, according to a Danish IT magazine.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry brought a civil case against Tele2 Denmark after the ISP refused to filter the Web sites its customers visited.

The Pirate Bay, based in Sweden, is one of the world's most popular piracy tools. The company, founded by three Scandinavians, doesn't host any copyright films or music. Instead, visitors use the site to find pirated material available on torrent files.

Hollywood studios have long considered The Pirate Bay an outlaw organization. The site's founders say they operate in accordance with Swedish law.

Last week, a Swedish prosecutor charged four men connected to The Pirate Bay with conspiracy to violate copyright law.

Smorty : The All New Blog Advertising Network

Smorty is the site that connects the bloggers and the advertisers together. It mainly promotes blog advertising. Bloggers get paid now to write their blogs. The advertisers get greater traffic and advertisement for their site or products. This is a balance that works in both ways. The bloggers are not required to advertise for the site. They can just write their opinions on the various products and put link backs. They can select the subject that interests them the most and make multiple posts. Posting in multiple blogs will increase the earnings of the blogger. The advertisers on the other hand can get interesting reviews for their site. They can choose to pay for the post that they choose to approve. With each unique article they have unique reviews of their site. With this they gain increase in popularity and subsequently the traffic increases in their site. The blogs are of top quality and are fully indexed for the ease of the viewers who can locate any blog of their interest quickly. The service is the link between the advertiser and the blog site. With the help of this service the advertiser can increase its traffic which will soon convert into product sales and help them earn revenue. The bloggers on the other hand will get paid for the service of writing content and reviews for the advertiser.

    Yahoo Mail Out Of Beta

Yahoo is making big waves with their online mail service; they are set to offer an option to send SMS messages directly from your Yahoo mail account. The prospect of free, mass implementation of such connectivity has us a bit excited.

The overhaul is part of a revamp Yahoo is investing in and their hope is to reform email as a better integrated, "social communication" tool. Among other features, users will be able to check maps, directions and other travel details directly from within an email. Simply by hovering across an address, a pop-up window will appear offering the aforementioned information. We imagine this will save a lot of time in the long run. The SMS feature seems equally nifty; send a message to a mobile number and the reply will pop up in your inbox as an instant message.

All this integrating goodness will start to appear in the coming weeks and will be made available in the USA, Canada, India and the Philippines, which is just great because I had no use for email-SMS in the UK, anyway. That sucks! You guys have all the fun. Be sure to let us know how you find the new experience.

    Useful Add-Ons For IE7

No web browser is perfect, and no web browser does everything just the way everyone wants it to.

Enter add-ons. Also called extensions or plug-ins, add-ons let third-party companies and users with programming skills extend the browser's functionality in different ways. They are your ticket to a customized web.

Here are a few cool add-ons for Internet Explorer 7 ..

    1. ieSpell
It's a shame a spell-checker wasn't built into IE7, but ieSpell corrects that oversight. Once installed, ieSpell does a nice job of staying out of the way until you need it. There are three ways to activate the spell-checker: from the tools menu, from its own top-level menu and from the contextual (right-click) menu. If you happen to use a branded version of IE7 such as those from MSN or AOL, ieSpell will only be accessible from the right-click menu. IeSpell is also available for Internet Explorer 6.

    2. Inline Search
Supercharging Internet Explorer's searching capabilities, Inline Search provides find-as-you-type functionality on the web page you're currently visiting. A quick keyboard shortcut (Ctrl-F) will bring up a toolbar at the base of your browser window, a behavior that closely mimics Firefox's built-in search functionality. Inline Search lets you find as you type, highlight all instances of your search terms on the page or make your search case-sensitive. Regrettably, the keyboard shortcuts aren't customizable, so you'll want to memorize the following shortcuts: Esc closes the search pane when it's in focus, F3 or Enter will find the next occurrence of your search term and Shift-F3 or Shift-Enter will find the previous occurrence. Inline Search is also available for IE6.

    3. IE7 Open Last Closed Tab
This add-on does exactly what its name implies: It creates a keyboard shortcut (Alt-X) to restore a tab after it's been closed. IE7 Open Last Closed Tab isn't the most glamorous of add-ons, but it will save you from fat-fingered mistakes and overly hasty decisions.

    4. Add Search Providers
With this you can add new search engines to IE7's built-in search field with ease. Head over to the Add Search Providers page and choose your preferred service's pre-built tool. Don't see your favorite site listed ? Just follow the instructions for the Add Search Provider page's Create Your Own tool. IE7 does the rest.

    5. Trailfire Toolbar
Leave behind virtual sticky notes on web pages for others to view. IE7 users can install the add-on and start sharing "trailmarks" with fellow Trailfire users. These marks are little notes on individual web pages that can be strung together to form your own interpretive trail across the web. Trailfire Toolbar is also available for IE6.

    6. GooglePreviewIE
Want to see a preview of a web page before you visit? The GooglePreviewIE toolbar provides customized search-results pages with thumbnail previews for popular sites like Google, Yahoo and Amazon. GooglePreviewIE's thumbnail images are only visible when searching through the toolbar -- a normal web search will still give you default results. It's extra handy for image and product searches. GooglePreviewIE is also available for IE6.

    7. Mouse Gestures for Internet Explorer
Mouse Gestures for Internet Explorer adds Firefox/Opera style mouse gesture support to IE7 allowing the user to execute commonly performed tasks by drawing a symbol on the browser screen.

Yahoo Toolbar With Norton Spyware Scan 2

Yahoo Toolbar With Norton Spyware Scan 2 (Free)

The new Yahoo Anti-Spy spyware scanner is an excellent addition. It quickly scans your system and provides detailed information about any spyware or adware found. You can then easily remove what you want. With this new protection, Yahoo has definitely become the toolbar to beat.

    Shortage of IP Address

The seemingly boundless Internet is running out of a key resource: new IP addresses.

The evaporating supply of new addresses — which some estimates say could dry up in about three years — could drive up the price of Internet access as well as disrupt the growth and performance of the network, warn some experts.

Worried that opportunists will hoard addresses to speculatively sell them, the organization responsible for handing out addresses in North America announced Wednesday that it would try to regulate the emerging trade. And in recent months, Internet administrators have been more forcefully urging software vendors, Internet service providers (ISPs), and major content providers to transition to a new addressing system.

Because upgrading can take years, the time to act is now, some experts say. "I suspect we are actually beyond a reasonable time frame where there won't be some disruption. It's just a question of how much," says David Conrad, general manager for the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), the top body that allocates IP addresses. "The largest impact to most people would be that there's no way out of paying higher prices for Internet service."

As the pool of new addresses shrinks, explains Conrad, organizations and companies with surplus addresses are likely to make them available — for a price. That cost will be passed along to consumers when they order Internet access.

    Shortsighted Programming

The reason for the problem stems from shortsighted programming, as was the case with the Y2K bug at the turn of the millennium. Addresses under the current standard, known as IPv4, are made up of four integers between 0 and 255. That allows for roughly 4.3 billion addresses — not enough to keep pace with expanding Internet access in India and China as well as the variety of devices going online.

Newer IPv6 addresses are made up of six integers instead of four, allowing trillions of trillions of new addresses.

Few companies have followed suit. Less than 1 percent of Internet traffic uses IPv6. The reason: Consumers aren't clamoring for it, so there is no immediate, compelling business reason to upgrade.
